Have you ever thought of an emotionless world? Everyone is calm but does not attach any feelings while living. It would be a peaceful world. There will be no fighting and anger, no regret and sadness. However, there will not be happiness and laughter as well.
This is the topic of the movie “The Invasion”, acting by Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. It is positioned as a horror movie in Taiwan although there is almost nothing related to horror. (No ghost, no killing, very few screaming).
The storyline starts with anonymous virus from the universe spreading rapidly among human beings. After being contaminated, the DNA of that person is different. The DNA is not destroyed but is added more genes which make the person being emotionless. It seems like the world is becoming more peaceful with these “emotionless” creatures.
Not until I watched this movie do I realize why Osho said anger and sadness are beauty. If we don’t show our emotions at all, we would be like a living corpse. Maybe this is where the horror is?
Nicole Kidman tried really hard to defy the virus because she does not want to leave her son out of the emotionless world. (her son is immune to the virus). I guess we can conclude that love always saves the world?
Numb and emotionless seems harmless, but it is a virus that makes people loses themselves. Like the lines in the movie “my son is not my son” “my husband is no my husband” If so, what’s the point for pursuing peace?
The boundary between emotionless and calmness sometimes is quite vague. A healthy person should show the emotions but not being controlled and dragged by it.
Anyway, I recommend this movie.
