For Ceha

I don't know why but I’ve always had the feeling that Ceha could read my mind. Not in a bad way though. It's like we have already known each other for a very long time. Every time Ceha looks at me, I can tell from her expression that she’s thinking, Yeah, you know, that's Meicy.

Although Ceha is 25, she doesn't look her age. She is mature for her years and she doesn’t conform to what everyone else does. She knows her own mind, which I really admire.

She is my first Muslim friend, a very modern and open-minded girl who respects her religion. For those who know a little about Muslims, you know they have lots of rules about how to live. For example, they can't eat pork, they have to pray 5 times a day...this can be difficult to follow in Hong Kong. We often have pork in hot pot, and night life for trainees is a must. So Ceha has to be careful when eating with others and could not be too wild when going out in Lan Kwai Fong. I am impressed that she has always managed to keep to these rules for Muslims without putting anyone out.

I have two roommates, and Ceha is my honorary third roommate. Whenever Ceha comes round, we always have fun. In the first few months, we used to love having a North Point girls’ gathering when one of us would cook something. The thing about Ceha is, you could always ask her to cook and she would love to, but when it comes to washing dishes, it seems she’d rather die...ha-ha.

My best memory of Ceha is definitely the Guilin trip. We joined a 250RMB Guilin tour for 3 days. Since you pay so little money for a trip, you pay the rest in physical suffering thanks to the 8 hour bus journey each way. The bumpy bus almost killed us on the way to Guilin. We ran into an unbelievable traffic jam at 1 am, so it actually took 12 hours to get there. Then as soon as we arrived, we started biking under a blazing sun. For me this was the most memorable experience with Ceha cause we know that we'll never do this again and you could only do this when you are still young.

Another surprise about this Guilin trip is that Ceha finally found out where her Chinese accent is from, right, Ceha?!

Ceha is going back home to Indonesia in July. When I visited her country at the age of 12, I never would have thought that I'd have a good friend from Indonesia and we would meet in Hong Kong. Life is full of miracles. I strongly believe I will meet Ceha again somewhere. Whenever and wherever that is, I look forward to that day.

Ceha has already seen lots of our tricks at our surprise parties, so we will not have any surprises at her farewell party. This article is my surprise for you, Ceha. You say you don't want to have a sentimental farewell party, but saying goodbye is always sentimental... You are starting a new chapter of your life and I hope I will still be part of this. I know I'm going to miss you so so much, Ceha. I hope everything goes well.

Yours

Meicy
